A recipe for deep sleep with vivid dreams plus an anti-inflammatory lemon boost!

I love Australian native bush medicine, and since I am not a good sleeper, I knew I had to try it when I saw this tea!
Jilungin Bush Tea is made from the leaves of Terminalia canescens and the stems and bark. It is wild-harvested in the Kimberly region of Australia, which is a hot, dry area in the Northwest of the continent. It has a mild earthy flavour and has been traditionally used by local Indigenous Australians for thousands of years to promote deep sleep, full of dreams.
The term “dreaming tea” references two aspects of this amazing bush medicine. “The Dreaming” or “Dreamtime” is how Indigenous Australians describe the time of creation and also how they refer to a trance state that links to their ancestors. It’s a singularly unique concept that Indigenous Australians say is impossible to accurately define outside their languages. The other aspect of “dreaming tea” links to the property of this tea that gives the consumer a deep sleep with vivid dreams.
I can attest to the vivid dreams evident in the night following first consumption, but even more intense after a few nights in a row. I don’t consume this tea on its own, however. I like to combine the earthy flavor with a lemon kick from Native Lemongrass or Cymbopogon ambiguus. This amazing grass has been studied by Griffith University, with results suggesting that the anti-inflammatory action is more potent than ibuprofen.

To make this lovely, relaxing tea and ensure a good night’s sleep,
- start by crushing and crumbling approximately 2 tablespoons of Jilingun Tea mixture into a teapot,
- add approximately 1 tablespoon of Native Lemongrass tea,
- pour boiling water over, and
- leave it to steep for around 10 minutes.
I always make too much. The remaining tea goes into a bottle in the fridge. It’s lovely as an iced tea, especially in hot weather! I reuse the leaves in the teapot twice before discarding them in my compost.
For a lovely tea followed by a night of deep sleep, I recommend this combination!
