Here Comes Storm Season

A Sonnet For The Violent Storms Of Our Australian Home

Before the first storm of the season. Photo by Author.

Mother Nature roars and shakes supple trees
Lightning flares bright and lights the dull, grey sky
Heavy drops fall with hail doth the flash freeze
It pounds the soil and breaks the leaves on high

Thunder rings its heavy gong and warns all
The birds do fly and find a shelter good
Mother Nature finds weakness small and tall
From broken shell to cracks in the hard wood

We watched it come obscure the sky blue
We race to fasten, and make safe our home
Delight and fear and thrill and awe so true
Taking shelter in our brick and tile dome

And yet within, the storm still hits its mark
As children thrill in storm and Nature’s spark.
